250th Historic Veteran’s Day Hike to Mom Rinker’s Rock

Wednesday, November 11 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Meeting at Historic RittenhouseTown (208 Lincoln Drive)

Come and enjoy an informative historic walk and talk on this 250th Veterans Day with Desert Shield/Desert Storm Veteran & Trail Ambassador Kevin Eikov and Trail Ambassador Kathy Conklin. We will walk from Historic RittenhouseTown to Forbidden Drive to the Toleration Statue in a loop. Learn about the History of our nation and the Battle of Germantown, which occurred in the Wissahickon and led to our eventual freedom from the British, as well as bar keeper & spy Molly Rinker and Mom Rinker’s Rock. We’ll also hike to the Toleration statue and see William Penn.

Check out a preview of our hike on Komoot below!

Distance: 4 miles
Audience: Ages 18+
Parking and Transit: If you’re driving, there is parking nearby our meeting area as well as up by the bike cafe, but in the event the lots fill up, you can find parking along the nearby neighborhood streets or at Blue Bell Park rather than parking along Rittenhouse Lane. Note that the lot along Lincoln Drive is the site of regular car break-ins and is not recommended. If taking transit, our location is serviced by Bus 65 (Walnut Lane and Wissahickon Ave) and Chestnut Hill West Regional Rail (Chelten). See map for details.
Restrooms: We will make a rest stop about halfway through our hike at the Kitchen’s Lane bathroom.

Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain, extreme heat, muddy conditions, or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.
