The Wissahickon—A Cultural Inspiration

Sunday, November 15 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Meeting at Houston Playground (900 Grakyn Lane)

The Wissahickon is not only an important natural resource and wonderful outdoor space—it is also an inspiration for artists of all types. Join Trail Ambassadors Lisa Kleiman, Jean McWilliams, Naomi Leach, and Jennifer Danos on this 5 mile multimedia hike as we explore the film and tv works, paintings, literature, and music that have rooted the Wissahickon into American culture. We will hike both Forbidden Drive and the wooded trails of the northern portion of the park, stopping periodically to discuss (and view) these cultural influences. The hike will be at a moderate pace—the trails are hilly and do have rocks and roots so please plan your footwear accordingly.

Please bring along plenty of water and some snacks, and dress in layers for the weather.

Distance: 5 miles
Audience: Ages 18+
Parking and Transit: There is usually plenty of street parking on Sequoia Road and Grakyn Lane, and you can find additional parking on the surrounding neighborhood streets.See map for details.
