Bring in the Spring… with a Creek Cleanup

Like the old saying goes, April showers bring May flowers, but they also create large amounts of stormwater washing into local streams! That’s why FOW gets on a streak of spring cleaning when April comes around, working to pick up litter washed downstream into the Wissahickon Creek (the source of drinking water for over 300,000 Philadelphians) – and we’d love it if you could join us.
Register for the Philly Spring Clean Up
This year, Friends of the Wissahickon will be holding two larger Saturday April cleanup events in Wissahickon Valley Park. On April 10th, we will host multiple sites for our Philly Spring Cleanup Service Day, part of the Philly Spring Clean Up, the largest single-day, citywide cleanup in the U.S.! During the cleanup, neighbors, civic organizations, businesses, and nonprofits all over Philadelphia work together to remove litter, beautify blocks, and spruce up shared spaces like parks, gardens, and recreation centers. You can register for the cleanup here.
Register for the Annual Creek Clean Up
On April 24, we’re also book-ending our Earth Day celebrations by spring cleaning the entire watershed in the Annual Wissahickon Creek Clean-Up, along with our upstream partners at Wissahickon Trails! Sign up here for our volunteer service day, or see a list of Wissahickon Trails’ volunteer opportunities here.
Become a Wissahero – volunteer today!
Can’t make either of those dates? No need to worry – you can do your part for the park as a Wissahero! Sign up to do a cleanup solo or with a group at fow.org/wissahero, and FOW will make sure to get you the supplies you need to help make the Wissahickon a little more beautiful. We’ll see you in the park!
