Last year, our annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day, in honor of the late civil rights activist, was our largest single-location service day to date. We were joined by 240 volunteers to improve the Wissahickon Valley Park by removing invasive plants and collecting litter.

We can’t help but want to break our record. Start 2025 as one of the thousands of volunteers making a huge impact on the resiliency of the park’s habitat and the quality of Philadelphia’s recreational experience.

In honor of the great Dr. King, ask yourself what you can do for others. Join us on Monday, 1/20, at 9 AM for this year’s MLK service day. Register here.

King dedicated his life to giving back to his community. We all have the power to be the change we want to see in our city, and improving community spaces for you and your neighbors to enjoy is a great place to start!

This fantastic day of service has been a long-standing part of our volunteer program and an exciting Super-Saturday during the quieter time for our volunteer corp. Since our first MLK Service Day, the event has grown quite a bit! From 59 participants in 2018, our earliest recorded date, to more than 200 this past year.

We’ll be at Blue Bell Hill Park, a beloved area of Wissahickon Valley Park, beautifying and improving the area. Bring your neighbors, your kids, your friends, your classmates, bring yourself, a jacket, and a sturdy pair of shoes and FOW staff and volunteers will guide you in stewarding the park.

This is a perfect opportunity to make good on those New Year’s resolutions to spend more time outside, meet new people, and give back to your community.

Will you join us?
