From the Director: Your Votes Can Raise $100,000 for Wissahickon Valley Park

Uncategorized // May 16, 2017

Friends of the Wissahickon is one of three finalists in the running for a $100,000 donation from “NRG Gives,” a charitable-giving program sponsored by the NRG Retail Charitable Foundation. Voting runs through May 19, and you can vote as often as you want. Vote here!

Why is winning this contest so important to FOW?

This grant of $100,000 is unrestricted, which means FOW can be flexible and use it for a variety of projects and park needs—even those needs we can’t anticipate, like the damage the park suffers during large storms.

Wissahickon Valley Park is also facing more challenges than ever before. In addition to stormwater runoff, erosion, and invasive plants, trees in the park are under attack from infestations of emerald ash borer and hemlock wooly adelgid.

Nature is unpredictable and FOW’s work takes place in a dynamic landscape. A $100,000 unrestricted gift will make FOW a more stable organization with a strong foundation of support. With your help, we can win this one for the Wissahickon!
