Volunteering: What to Know

Thank you for your interest in volunteering to keep Wissahickon Valley Park clean and beautiful! Below is all of the information you’ll need to prepare for a fun and successful stewardship experience:

What to Wear

  • Sturdy boots/sneakers – no open toed shoes.
  • Long pants. Who has time for ticks, poison ivy and stinging nettle?
  • Clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.
  • Sun protection – a hat & sunscreen.
  • We have work gloves, but always encourage that you bring your own if possible.

What to Bring

  • Your own reusable water bottle to help reduce waste.

Cancellation Details for Inclement Weather

  • Typically, we will work in a light rain or snow.
  • Service Days will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain or snow, thunder and lighting, high winds, etc. If the service day is cancelled, it will be posted by 8 am the day of the service day at the latest.

Minors Volunteering

Teenagers between the ages of 14-18 may volunteer at our service days with the signature of their parent or guardian on our sign-in/waiver form. Kids under the age of 14 may volunteer, but must be accompanied by an adult and have a signed waiver.

Groups

If you are a part of a group of ten or more, please reach out to Volunteer Program Coordinator, Amelia Marren at marren@fow.org, so we can best accommodate your group. Smaller groups, please have each individual register online for the desired service day.
