Support Stewardship this Holiday Season

News // November 10, 2021

Chilly weather is coming, foliage is fading, and Volunteer Recognition Night is just around the corner – which means our season of stewardship will soon be coming to an end. But there’s no end to all the amazing things you can do to support the conservation of Wissahickon Valley Park!

Wear the Wissahickon.

We know it’s early, but as they say, the early bird gets the worm… and placing your holiday orders now for great FOW swag (like our famed map tee) makes sure we’ll get them to you in time for the holidays.

If you’ve got a Wissahickon lover in your life who could use some sweet swag, head on down to FOW’s online shop to check out our shirts, mugs, totes, and more. You can get started here!

Wissahickon Valley Park is a special place – and if there’s a special person in your life who walks, jogs, bikes, walks their dog, fishes, hikes with their kids, or rides a horse in the Wissahickon, you can give them the gift of Wissahickon Valley Park this year.  FOW members’ support allows us to improve trails, restore habitat, and keep the creek clean for everyone who visits. Did you know that Wissahickon Valley Park is a National Natural Landmark? In 1964, the park received this title from the National Parks Service as part of the National Natural Landmarks program – and inspired by their choice, we put together 12 months of landmark landscape photos of the Wissahickon for our gorgeous 2022 calendar. FOW members at the basic level and above receive this calendar for free, so become a member or renew your membership to get one (as well as a pocket map along with it.)

With help from friends like you, FOW can continue working to preserve Wissahickon Valley Park for years to come. By making a contribution today, you allow us to continue:

  • partnering with Let’s Go Outdoors and the School District of Philadelphia on the Little Friends of the Wissahickon program, which invites our youngest explorers to the world of nature found just blocks away from their own homes.
  • stewarding the 50+ mile trail network in the Wissahickon, making them more resilient to our region’s increasing heavy rainstorms and park usership.
  • removing over 10 tons of trash from the park and its waterways annually, improving the water quality of the Wissahickon Creek.

Our community’s investment of time and resources in the Wissahickon Valley continues to set a high standard throughout the Philadelphia region. Your gift will restore the natural beauty of the Wissahickon and protect this priceless green space.
