Start the Year off on a High Note

News // January 03, 2024

Happy New Year! The holiday season is a marathon of celebration that can leave us feeling lethargic. If you’re looking for a way to kickstart the new year and get to work on some charitable resolutions, look no further than our Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day event on 1/15!

Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?” We’re answering that question by investing in the Wissahickon, a cornerstone of our community.

We’ll be kicking off our Monday service day at 9 AM at Thomas Mansion with a variety of service projects. Bring out the whole family for litter clean-up or join or our trained volunteers and Field Staff for involved projects, including invasive removal. Register here.

Whether you’re looking to be more active in the new year, meet your neighbors, spend more time outside, or perhaps make a lasting impact on your community, we encourage you to join our volunteer effort next week and all throughout this year. FOW hosts a number of weekly service days, with up to five each week during our busy season, the summer. Find a day that works for you and join our network of park lovers!

Check out our weekly service days here.

We were blown away last year with nearly 200 volunteers at our annual MLK service day. Big turnouts to our service days empower big projects. We love making new connections and introducing park lovers to the stewardship work that keeps our parks beautiful for recreation.

No experience is needed, we’ll provide gloves, tools, and instruction! Take the leap, come out for a service day. It might just be the start of a beautiful friendship.
