A New Tour of an Old Favorite on the FOW Map App

News // August 28, 2024

Want to go on an adventure? Take a guided tour of the Wissahickon with the FOW Map App, and you’ll never have to explore alone.

Our free app has a new park tour, just in time for the All Trails Challenge. Join beloved Trail Ambassadors Debbie Hoellein and Jim McClory on a 3-mile hike through the Houston Ramble, which will help Challengers access a few hidden gems, learn about their rich history, and knock off a few miles on their journey.

The map is free to download for iOS and Androids. Click here to download and take Debbie and Jim’s tour! Haven’t registered for ATC? There’s still time! Register here.

The hike, which the pair lead in honor of the late Trail Ambassador Gerry Schweiger, will also be offered in person. Click here to register for Jim, Debbie, and Cathy Schweiger’s Wissahickon in September Walk & Talk.

Gerry, who used to lead a variation of the hike in his Trails Less Traveled series, was Debbie’s mentor through FOW’s Trail Ambassador program. The route through the Houston Ramble takes hikers to one of his favorite structures in the park, the Henry Houston Statue.

Download the free app and listen to Debbie and Jim guide you from W. Johnson and Lincoln Drive, down the Monoshone Creek, across the Walnut Lane Bridge, through FOW’s project site at Harvey Street, to the Henry Houston Statue, back through Historic RittenhouseTown, and stop by Thomas Mansion before heading back to our starting point.

Three weeks into the All Trails Challenge, one thing is for sure, our Challengers have been out on the trails, they’ve hiked, biked, and hoofed over the entire 50-mile trail system more than 11 times already.

We’ll be exploring the Wissahickon trail system during our All Trails Challenge and making a big impact on its conservation until October 11. For more information and to start your All Trails Challenge.
