In 2019, FOW’s three Seasonal Field Crew worked to educate 1,200 park users on Leave No Trace principles and removed 1,500 pounds of trash from the Wissahickon during our busiest season.
In 2020, we were unable to hire them due to COVID-19.
This Giving Tuesday, we need your support to double the size of our seasonal crew and our 2021 impact in Wissahickon Valley Park.
Can you help us double our impact today?
In a typical year, FOW’s seasonal field crew makes a huge difference for the park throughout the summer. Every year, our three seasonal field crew members assist at volunteer cleanups, provide extra hands on improvement projects, and educate park visitors about the Wissahickon Valley Park and Leave No Trace principles during the park’s busiest season. Their work is critical to making sure Wissahickon can handle increased visitorship, and that all visitors continue to find the Wissahickon a welcoming place to recreate.
In 2020, we were not able to hire our usual three seasonal staff to help take care of the park due to COVID-19 – and their absence was keenly felt as the pandemic significantly increased visitation to the park. There’s every reason to expect similar levels of park visitation in the summer of 2021, and we’re planning to hit the ground running with more hands and hires as early as possible next year.
We’re asking you – this Giving Tuesday, can you help us double our impact for the Wissahickon in 2021?
Double the impact. We are looking to hire up to SIX seasonal field crew members in 2021 to assist with increased visitation to Wissahickon Valley Park, and expand their work period from June-August to May-September. But we need your support to make it happen.
With $20,000, we can make sure that we have a full crew for the entire summer of next year in Wissahickon Valley Park to take on trail projects and cleanups and reach out to thousands of new park visitors. We’ve got one week to get there and every donation counts – can you chip in for the Wissahickon?
