The Wissahickon in December with Andi Wingert, Debbie Hoellein and Jim McClory
December 27, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Meet at Houston Playground (Graykn and Sequoia Streets)
In December, the Wissahickon comes alive as new vistas appear. Join Andi, Debbie, and Jim as we spot birds that are only visiting for the winter. One of these is the white-throated sparrow which hunts noisily in the undergrowth for seeds. With a little luck, we’ll hear its hauntingly beautiful call. We’ll hear the rustling of the beech leaves in a barely noticeable breeze. We will see what plants survive over the winter, and learn how Houston Meadow was transformed from a field of overgrown invasives to the beauty it is today.
Children 12 years and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult, but please no dogs other than service animals.
Distance: 3-3.5 miles
