Myths, Legends, Hermits, and Bridges of the Wissahickon
September 25 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join Trail Ambassadors Stan Kozakowski, Michael Bridges and Gordon Henderson as they explore some of the mysticism, mythology, religion, legends, history, art, music, and architecture found within the Wissahickon. We will have ample time to examine these from the three different perspectives of history, theology, and psychology. Along the way, we will visit Lover’s Leap, the Henry Avenue Bridge, the Hermitage, and Kelpius’ Cave. At each of these sites, we will consider topics that range from hidden subway stations, apocalyptic movements, and the Wissahickon’s most famous hermit.
Level: Moderate (may include inclines and declines, uneven surfaces)
Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. We ask all event attendees to bring a mask and mask up if a distance of six feet cannot be maintained during the activity. If you or anyone in your household are exhibiting COVID-19 systems, please stay home. More information is at fow.org/covid-19.
Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks.
