City Nature Challenge: Fall BioBlitz!

September 25 @ 6:00 am - September 28 @ 10:00 pm

What’s living in the park? We want to know!

Join your friends at FOW for the City Nature Challenge Fall BioBlitz, from September 25-28! Like the City Nature Challenge in April, this is an event for citizen scientists (like you) to help in documenting Philadelphia’s biodiversity through the iNaturalist App.

While you can participate anywhere in the city – even in your own back yard- we encourage you to come to Wissahickon Valley Park and and help us to continue to record all of the species of plants and animals that live here. It’s a great way to connecting to the environment while generating useful data for science and conservation!

We’ve also lined up a whole weekend of virtual programming, with local naturalists who’ll teach you how to spot Wissahickon flora, fauna, and fungi, as well as how to record your observations on the iNaturalist App. Follow their adventures during the Bioblitz on our Facebook page, every day at 9AM!

  • Friday, 9/25: Philadelphia Mycology Club’s Sam Bucciarelli!
  • Saturday, 9/26: PA Master Naturalist Nicole Cantwell (@phillynaturalists)
  • Sunday, 9/27: FOW Crew Leader Lisa Stout
  • Monday, 9/28: Wildlife Photographer Troy Bynum (Check out his Wildlife Wednesdays on the FOW Instagram and at @tb_wildlife_photography!)

Want to start your observations early? Here’s how to download iNaturalist and get started.
